Getting Ready

Amelia woke up bright and early on the morning of her birthday. It was another beautiful sunny Saturday in Ferntree Grove.

‘Look, P!’ exclaimed Amelia. She jumped out of bed and flung open her bedroom curtains. ‘Not a cloud in the sky. Perfect party weather!’

Percy was curled up on the end of Amelia’s bed. He lifted his head drowsily and yawned.

‘There’s no time for sleep, lazybones. We’ve got the whole house to decorate. There’s so much to do!’ said Amelia. She hopped back onto the bed next to her snoozing puppy and sighed. ‘I just want it to be the best party ever, Percy. But I keep getting a horrible feeling that my terrible twin cousins are going to do something to ruin it.’

Percy placed a reassuring paw on Amelia’s arm. She was deep in thought, thinking back to the other day when she got cross just imagining what those naughty boys might get up to. She had felt that same peculiar tingle and chill the day on the handball courts. It was just for a second and then it was gone.

Amelia couldn’t think about that now though. Today was her party and she was going to make sure it was perfect!
